Staff Introduction
Sandy Dawney
Care Worker
- I have been working for Canowindra for the past 18mths as a field worker.
- The most enjoyable part of my day would be interaction with the clients. I get a lot of joy from listening to their stories and reliving their memories with them.
- My clients also have their own gifts and talents in ways of cooking, art, music, cross stitch and life knowledge. Learning is life long and I believe I learn from them everyday and am thankful for their gratitude and kindness shown to me.
- My role mainly requires me to clean and help maintain the home environment of our clients as they like it either on a weekly or fortnightly basis and also to yarn and check in on their own well-being. This is usually done over a cuppa.
CEDRIC HOUSE RESPITE COTTAGE
If you need some timeout, recuperating from an illness, discharged from hospital with no one at home to take care of you or your carer needs a break, then you may be eligible for a respite break.

Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards
As part of the new Aged Care Act and Regulatory model, the current Aged Care Quality Standards are being strengthened. The strengthened Quality Standards set expectations for providers to ensure they deliver safe and quality care. They create a shared understanding of what is expected in aged care.
The strengthened Quality Standards have been streamlined from 8 to 7 Standards and will commence from 1 November 2025, in line with the new Aged Care Act. The existing Standards will remain in effect until then. Please see below, the first three standards and the expectation statements for older people.
Standard 1:
I have the right to be treated with dignity and respect and to live free from any form of discrimination. I make decisions about my funded aged care services, with support when I want or need it. My identity, culture and diversity are valued and supported, and I have the right to live the life I choose. My provider understands who I am and what is important to me, and this determines the way my funded aged care services are delivered.
Standard 2:
The organisation is well run. I can contribute to improvements to care and services. My provider and aged care workers listen and respond to my feedback and concerns. I receive funded aged care services from aged care workers who are knowledgeable, competent, capable and caring.
Standard 3:
The funded aged care services I receive:
• are safe and effective
• optimise my quality of life, including through maximising independence and reablement
• meet my current needs, goals and preferences
• are well planned and coordinated
• respect my right to take risks.
